Little Brown Bat Removal (Myotis lucifugis)

The little brown bat is well known for living in homes, attics, church steeples, barns and other buildings. This is one of the most common nuisance bat species not only here in Minnesota but throughout many parts of the United States & Canada. The maternal colonies typically have young bat pups from May to Jul. bat pups are born breach, naked with eyes closed and feed on mother 18-20 days and can fly at 18-25 days.

The Little Brown Bat is a insectivore, and eats small flying insects such as caddis flies, mayflies, midges and mosquitoes. The Little Brown Bat are nocturnal and usually fly out of urban roosts such as homes. churches etc 20-30 min after sunset and return before sunrise.

This bat is often found through out the night foraging for insects over rivers, lakes, and beneath street lights . These bats consume about half of their weight in insects every night.A lactating female can consume up to 110 percent of their body weight nightly and gather in maternal bat colonies numbering about 75 female bats per maternal bat colony.

Eastern Pipistrelle Bat  (Pippistrellis subflavus)

The Eastern Pippistrelle is a little larger then the little brown bat which is also darker in color. This bat has been found living in homes, attics, church steeples, barns and other buildings. This bat can also be found behind shutters, loose bark of trees and the hollows of trees in the summer.

The maternal colonies typically have medium to large bat maternal colonies young bat pups from Jun – Jul. The eastern pipistrelle is one of the few bats species that routinely give birth to twin bat pups.1-2 bat pups are to their mother born breach, naked with eyes closed and feed on mother 14-22 days and can fly at 14-22 days.

The Northern Myotis Myotis septentrionalis

The Northern Myotis Myotis septentrionalis is found most anywhere east of the Rocky Mountain’s including up into eastern Canada they may occur anywhere but never in numbers to ever be considered common. As early as 1979, it was considered a sub species of Keen’s Myotis which is only found in the Pacific North West aka Northern Long Eared Myotis which has since been ruled out. They weigh 6-11 grams and are larger then a Little Brown bat and can call home living behind loose bark, shingles, boards, shutters, and beneath bridges, inside concrete culverts during the summer and live in caves and mines in the winter.

Big Brown Bats Eptesicus fuscus

They look just like the little brown bats but larger in size 14-26 grams to be exact in size compared to the little brown bat from 3-14 grams in body weight. Big brown bats prefer living in houses over the winter compared to little brown bats that will leave their summer roosts like attics, church steeples and migrate to a cave far away for the winter.
